At least one morning a weekend I make “dad’s breakfast bar” for the family: scrambled eggs, toast, and sausage. It used to be bacon. Used to be. Now it’s this breakfast sausage from fourth-generation Ferry Farms in Litchfield, Michigan, about an hour from us here in Ann Arbor.

Made with humanely raised, heritage breed pork from their own farm blended with small pieces of apple and a dose of maple syrup, this sausage is toothsome and satisfying and meaty and as you might guess: just a touch sweet. It comes in bulk, ready for forming into patties or cooking up crumbles.
