Exquisito Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

Peanut butter dream.

While I'm not much of a candy eater, I have a weakness for peanut butter cups. I grew up eating the brand we all know best, and I'll confess I love the original so much that most of the time if I try a "fancy" peanut butter cup I'm disappointed that it doesn't taste like the classic.

Enter the exquisite bean-to-bar chocolatiers at Exquisito Chocolates in Miami. They make a peanut butter cup that, even to my exacting peanut butter cup tastes, is better than the standard. Knowing how they make it, it's no wonder it tastes so good. They start by roasting peanuts to make their own peanut butter. Then they coat it in a layer of single origin dark chocolate made from cacao grown near the town of Tumaco on Colombia's Pacific coast.

The flavor starts a little salty from the peanut butter, then grows to a chocolatey sweetness. The texture is great—perfectly balanced between the snap of good chocolate and the soft, creamy bite I expect from a peanut butter cup.

A box comes with four cups, enough to share (if you're generous) or hoard (if you're like me).
